Historic Sausalito Property Sells Well Over Listed Price of $2.9 Million

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Tanglewood, an extraordinary property in Sausalito, recently sold for well over its asking price of $2.9 million. Zephyr Real Estate Agent, Lily Remoundos, represented the purchaser in the transaction.

Tanglewood, located on Harrison Avenue, was built in 1873 when the gentry of San Francisco were purchasing summer homes in the fledgling township of Sausalito. The British Colonial home sits on one of the largest parcels in the area and includes extensive grounds. It was donated to the University of California in 1992 because of the considerable botanical gardens, which include old-growth oaks as well as exotic trees and shrubs from Asia and South America, some of which date back to the original landscaping in the 19th century.

Tanglewood affords stunning views of the Bay, San Francisco, and Angel Island. The prominent verandas, rambling walking trails and sprawling greens and patio areas all contribute to the secluded privacy and dignified lifestyle of this prominent home.

The property remained through generations in the original family of William Tillinghast until it was sold in the 1950s. The family held out for a buyer who would keep the original home and property intact, and it was a private sale to an important Bay Area architect, W. Steven Allen, founder of Anshen & Allen. It was Allen’s wife who was involved with the UCB Botanical Gardens and Gardener’s Guild.

The Allens resided at Tanglewood and willed it to the University of California for 20 years, in 1992, to be used as a botanical preserve. After the 20-year term the property was to be sold with proceeds to benefit the School of Architecture and Environmental Planning at UCB, courtesy of Allen and his wife. This marks the first time the property has been on the open market.

The modestly-sized home’s exterior is rather unique to the Bay Area. The home is modestly sized. Some of the upgrades, done by UC, were institutional, and not conforming to the style or size of the home. The new homeowner’s love and appreciation of the property include their vision to modernize and restore the interiors to it former grace and elegance.

Remoundos, agent for the purchasers, is herself an architect and immediately recognized the historical significance of the Sausalito property. “The British colonial bungalow is unique for the Bay Area, and the gardens offer a natural sanctuary, perfectly situated in the heart of town,” she commented. “The site still offers serenity which has not been compromised through the years. It is truly a place which transports one to a different time as soon as one enters the gates.”

Intero Real Estate Services Hosts Saratoga Eats to Raise Funds for The Intero Foundation

CUPERTINO, CA – On Friday, June 14th, Intero Real Estate Services, Inc. hosted Saratoga Eats, it’s first food truck rally, at the Saratoga Office from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. “What can I say? The Saratoga Eats event was nothing less than spectacular!” exclaimed Kim Connor, a Realtor out of the Intero Saratoga office, and the primary organizer of the event she dubbed a “neighborhood food truck adventure.” Although Kim had not been to a movable feast event before herself, she was the right woman for the job, having organized Sam’s ChowderMobile food truck to come to the Intero Saratoga parking lot before.

From Saratoga Eats’ inception, the vendors expressed doubts that attendance would be limited since this was the first food truck rally hosted by Intero, but “boy did we shock the truck vendors!” says Kim. First, the trucks rolled into the Intero Saratoga parking lot. Then, about one thousand friends, family, and neighbors of team Intero came together to enjoy the delicious food, drinks, and music. “The flow of people walking into the parking lot was steady and strong the entire time. Each vendor that I spoke with the following morning was truly stunned with what we did here,” Kim said during the aftermath.

Ten percent of the proceeds from each truck benefited the Intero Foundation. In addition to matching the donations from the trucks, Kim Connor underwrote the beer and wine so that all the money collected went directly to the foundation. Ultimately, the event raised $4,500 that will be dedicated to assisting the education and personal development of children in need. Cathy Jackson, president of the Intero Foundation, stated, “It was not just an ordinary fundraiser, but a community event that brought people from all over together.” Intero gives a whole-hearted thank you to Mogo BBQ, Melts My Heart, Porky’s SJ, Midday Picnic, House of Siam On Wheels, We Sushi and Waffle Amore! We also thank all who attended and helped out in any way, exposing the community to Intero’s values, spreading awareness of what the foundation does, and having fun all the while.

WASHINGTON, DC – Washington Fine Properties is pleased to announce its prominent recognition in the 2013 ‘Top Thousand’ report, an annual national awards ranking by The Wall Street Journal and REAL Trends.

The report ranks America’s top residential real estate agents and teams into four categories: Top 250 Individual Agents by Sales Volume, Top 250 Individual Agents by Transaction Sides, Top 250 Agent Teams by Sales Volume and Top 250 Agent Teams by Transaction Sides. Designees are recognized as the top half of one percent of nearly one billion licensed REALTORS(R) nationwide.

For the second consecutive year, Washington Fine Properties agents Mark McFadden and Nancy Taylor Bubes ranked among the Top Individual Agents by Sales Volume in the nation. McFadden, ranking No. 40, and Bubes, ranking No. 52, were the only Washington, DC agents to earn a spot in the top 100.

Earning the No. 40 spot in the Top Agent Teams by Sales Volume in the nation was the team of Ellen Morrell and Matthew McCormick, who have made perennial appearances on the list since the ranking system was first established. Also recognized for outstanding performance was the team of William F. X. Moody and Robert Hryniewicki, who have ranked among the top agent teams for four consecutive years.
